Pregnancy Massage
Q. Is massage safe during pregnancy?
A. Yes, it is when performed by fully qualified remedial massage
therapist.
It is natural, nurturing and caring therapy. Our practitioners at Wellness
Support Network have been trained in pregnancy massage and are accredited
in Anatomy and Physiology.
Q. How can I have a back massage if I can't
lie on my stomach?
A. That's easy! We are able to give you a back massage by positioning
you on your side using pillows and towels to support your body and make
your comfort our priority.N.B. We also have an upright massage
chair in which you can sit leaning forward with your arms on an armrest,
your head in a face cushion and your tummy has lots of room and no pressure.
We can reach your whole back, neck and shoulders quite comfortably.
Q. Is it safe to have a massage in the first
trimester?
A. As we do not work heavily on your lower back during pregnancy
and we never work on the tummy except to gently oil the skin, this is
quite safe. If you are worried at all, please check with your doctor
first for his approval.
Q. Can I have aromatherapy massage in pregnancy?
A. We do not recommend any aromatherapy massages in pregnancy
at Wellness Support Network. This is because some of the essential oils
are contraindicated during pregnancy. So we prefer to have a standard
rule at the clinic so no mistakes are made. However during labour it
is often useful and pleasurable to have aromatherapy present. Your midwives
are the best people to advise you in this matter.
Q. Is it a good idea to have a massage during
the hospital stay or soon after delivery?
A. Yes, it can be a very nice reward after the hard work of labour.
There are often aches and pains and strained muscles from the delivery
which are soothed by relaxing massage. You can choose to have aromatherapy
if you wish. We can come to your room at the hospital.
Q. Are home visits possible?
A. Yes, within reasonable distance of Hills District we can arrange
for you to have a massage at your home. The therapist who attends you
will bring all the necessary equipment. There is an added cost for the
home visit.
