Myofascial ReleaseWhat is Myofascial Release? Fascia is an elastic connective tissue layer that surrounds muscle. It is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs, and skeletal structures in our body. Muscle and fascia are united forming the myofascia system. Poor posture, injuries, stress and trauma can cause restrictions in the fascia around the muscle, and as result, pull our bodies out of it’s natural alignment. The goal of Myofascial Release is to remove the restriction in the fascia, allowing the body to realign itself. How is Myofascial Release done? Direct pressure is applied to the area by the therapist through use of fingers, knuckles, fists or elbows. A slow dragging or pushing movement is used to stretch and lengthen the fascia, helping the restrictions to unwind and give the client some relief. Most of our treatments combine Myofascial Release techniques, stretching and Remedial Massage to give effective pain relief and postural corrections. How long does a treatment last? Myofascial Release treatments take 60 minutes – 90 minutes. The shorter time focuses more on an individual area and a longer treatment would cover the entire body. |
